Development and use of the guide
This guide is set out in two sections.

Section One: Creating financial, environmental and social value into the future
This is designed to facilitate a better understanding of the many financial, social and environmental benefits trees offer new developments and how to secure them.

Section Two: Planning the urban forest: how to develop a strategy that delivers
This looks beyond new developments and focuses on developing a Strategy for a local urban forest to deliver the benefits that trees provide equitably across an urban environment.

Appendix: Urban forest sustainability performance Indicators for the UK
This accompanies Section Two to help assess progress in delivering the intentions set out the in the strategic plan and to identify where and to what extent improvements are needed.

Briefing Note 01: Legislation, policy and guidance on trees and development throughout the UK
This briefing note offers an overview of each national context. It has been prepared for guidance only and should not be taken as an authoritative statement of the law. Legislation, policy and guidance are subject to change and should always be double-checked prior to action.

As is TDAG’s practice, the guidance was developed collaboratively with input from many built and natural environment professionals and organisations along with an active steering group and project reviewers. As planning and allied guidance is always subject to change, there will be periodic updates.
